Center for the Study of New Media and Society | Scribd :: This paper reviews the role played by online ‘social media’ in political mobilization during Russia’s turbulent 2011-2012 election season. Focusing in particular on Twitter during the March 2012 presidential elections and subsequent protests, the study constructs oppositional, pro-government and neutral ‘meme’ distribution networks, reviews the dynamic and structural characteristics and draws early conclusions about the ways in which competing mobilizational groups used Twitter during the period of contention.
