Spot.us :: The West Bank (next to Israel) is one of the most hotly contested regions in the world, claimed by both Israeli settlers and Arab residents. Complicating the situation are citizen journalists, who sometimes capture footage of violence between settlers and Arab residents on video. Their “reporting” tends to be emotional and incendiary, and they are often backed and/or supported by agenda-driven advocacy organizations.
This piece (seeking funding here) will examine who the citizen journalists of the West Bank are, how and where they get equipment and training, and what outside organizations (if any) back and support their work. It will also look at citizen journalism clubs and what kind of work they are doing. It will also examine the value and impact of reporting done without editorial or professional guidelines.
