Foursquare has launched 'Local Updates': Talking to your local customers

Foursquare blog :: With the launch of local updates yesterday, we’ve made it easier than ever for the nearly 1,000,000 businesses on foursquare to connect with their loyal customers (for free).

Updates can be anything – from news about an upcoming event to photos of the daily specials, and they show up right in your customers’ friends tab when they’re in the same city.

Google+ at one: How Time magazine clocked up 1.2m followers

Journalism.co.uk :: Time magazine has clocked up 1.17 million followers on Google+, the social network which launched a year ago today. Time has a notable social media following, achieving the status of "number three news brand on Twitter" with over 3.6 million followers, it has 541,000 fans on its Facebook page and an impressive 35,000 followers on Foursquare.

While many news organisations have found little success on Google+, Time and also the Financial Times have both clocked up more than one million followers.

So how did Time reach that figure?

Be open, but not to private: This site knows what you're doing

The Next Web :: We post Facebook statuses about everything these days…at least I know that I do. Aggregating these statuses for any purpose can be fun, and someone took it to a whole new level by tattle tailing on those who are yapping about sensitive subjects. A site called “We Know What You’re Doing“, created by Callum Haywood, aggregates public Facebook and Foursquare data.

Mobile advertising prediction: A market worth $6.6 billion by 2017

Business Insider :: The mobile advertising market is predicted to balloon to $6.6 billion by 2017, according to a new report from BI Intelligence. That includes about $5.7B in mobile-media advertising spending, and $893 million in "local ads," or geo-targeted coupons of the sort Groupon and Foursquare currently offer.

Foursquare CEO reveals plans for personalized coupons

Wall Street Journal :: Foursquare doesn't want to be another popular—but unprofitable—social network. Its new plan to make money? Personalized coupons. The company, which lets users alert their friends to their location by "checking in" via smartphone from coffee shops, bars and other locations, revealed for the first time that it plans to let merchants buy special placement for promotions of personalized local offers in July in a redesigned version of its app.

The Next Web :: There are few web services that excite me as much as Foursquare does, when it comes to the data that it’s collecting. Based on the venues where I check-in, there is a whole host of other information that could be relevant to me.
