Kieren Fallon says he felt suicidal over News of the World sting

Guardian :: Champion jockey Kieren Fallon has told how he felt suicidal when he was confronted by the former News of the World's investigations editor Mazher Mahmood after a sting operation by the "fake sheikh". Fallon told a Channel 4 documentary about Mahmood's undercover operations, which was broadcast on Thursday evening, how he felt that he was being blackmailed by the paper in 2004 after it "fronted him up" and alleged he had thrown a race.

Rebekah Brooks charged over phone hacking allegations

Guardian :: Former News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks was formally charged with phone hacking and will appear in court next month, Scotland Yard have said. Brooks, 44, answered bail at Lewisham police station and will appear at Westminster magistrates court on 3 September.

The arrest of a journalist has been an extraordinarily rare occurrence. Today, it is commonplace

Press Gazette Editor’s Blog :: To paraphrase Martin Niemoller, first they came for the News International journalists and I said nothing – because I hated Rupert Murdoch. Then they came for the Mirror journalists, and I said nothing – because those red-top hacks are all the same. Then they came for the Express Newspapers journalists…Well you get the picture. More than a year on from the launch of the police inquiries into allegations of phone-hacking, corruption and computer-hacking, we are in a pretty scary place in the UK.

For eight of the nine years I have worked at Press Gazette, the arrest of a journalist in the course of their work has been an extraordinarily rare occurrence in the UK. Today, it is commonplace.

'NOTW', look beyond the word stigma: How have I coped?

Jules Stenson was Assistant Editor at the News of the World (NOTW). His piece is all about the life after NOTW was closed and to some extend it is also about how journalists can cope with being dismissed.

Huffington Post :: Most of the 200 former NOTW employees are back working - many at Fabulous magazine (survived the closure) and the Sun, which absorbed significant numbers of ex-NOTW staffers, though Rebekah Brook's promise that everyone would be found work was quickly reneged on. The Daily Mail - a tireless defender of journalism even in the toughest of times - has taken on several of our sub editors.

But many brilliant people - utterly untainted by the scandal - are still struggling to find work - or earning a fraction of what they were at the NOTW. The stigma lingers.

Phone hacking: 26-year-old arrested is News International employee

Guardian :: The 26-year-old man arrested on Thursday morning in connection with Scotland Yard's phone-hacking inquiry is a News International employee. Tom Mockridge, the chief executive of the publisher sent an email to all staff to says he was "sorry to inform" them that this was the case.
