Two journalists reportedly wounded in Syria yesterday

International Press Institute :: An Al Jazeera correspondent has reportedly been wounded in Syria and transferred to Turkey for medical treatment, while a Turkish photojournalist was reportedly shot in the foot. Both journalists were injured while covering clashes in Aleppo, the commercial capital of Syria, which has witnessed brutal fighting in recent days.

Media activist Mohammad Al-Husni killed in the Syrian neighbourhood of Homs

Doha Centre for Media Freedom :: Media activist and Director of Media Centre in Al Qusour, Mohammad Al-Husni, was killed in the Syrian neighbourhood of Homs on Thursday. Husni, 29-year-old, was filming in the area when a bomb blast took place that led to his death. His colleagues told Doha Centre for Media Freedom that he died due to shrapnel injuries from the blast.

Guardian :: The way that death toll figures are often presented in press and media reports might lead one to think that we don't (and can't) know very much about the deadly violence in Syria. Many reports of casualty figures either carry the disclaimer "unverified" or cite widely differing numbers for individual incidents, an example being 23 to 100 for the killings in the village of Mazraat al-Qubeir. Reuters :: Syrian intelligence agencies are running torture centers across the country where detainees are beaten with batons and cables, burned with acid, sexually assaulted, and their fingernails torn out, Human Rights Watch said in a report released on Tuesday.

Syrian TV reporter defects to help rebels

DOHA Centre for Media Freedom :: A presenter from Al Dounia channel, Syrian regime’s main T.V. channel, defected to the opposition and has been aiding the rebel groups by providing confidential information for the last seven months. Ghatan Sleiba, a long-time anchor and reporter, is believed to be the first high-profile defector, "I am the first and I will probably be the last," he said in an interview with the Guardian in southern Turkey.
